The list of criminal charges against a pair of Jefferson residents is long after the two allegedly attempted robbery at the Sparky’s One Stop in Churdan Monday night and then assaulted a Jefferson police officer at the Jefferson Sparky’s store.
The Greene County sheriff’s office and the JPD both reported the incident. According to Sheriff Steve Haupert, a deputy was dispatched to the Churdan Sparky’s Monday at 10:11 pm for a reported fight and assault. Heather Garcia, the attendant at Sparky’s, reported that a Dodge Charger with two passengers pulled into the Sparky’s driveway as she was outside the closed and locked station. The male and female passengers, later identified to be Zakkariah Levi-Dylan Boudewyn, 21, of Jefferson, and Mischell Cristen Lampe, 23, of Jefferson, got out of the vehicle and demanded money from Garcia. Lampe began fighting with Garcia and was then approached by Boudewyn.
At that time, Travis Venteicher of Churdan, who happened to be at Sparky’s, tried to help Garcia during the fight. Boudewyn then got into Venteicher’s vehicle and recklessly drove it into a gas pump. The assailants got back into the Dodge Charger and left Churdan southbound on Highway 4.
Boudewyn and Lampe were found at the Sparky’s One Stop on Highway 30 in Jefferson. Jefferson police sergeant Nick Sorensen was called there at 12:12 am for a male and female who were reported to be causing a disturbance in the store, yelling and cursing.
A deputy assisted with the Jefferson call. It was learned that Matthew David Kraft, 32, of Rockwell City was the driver of the Dodge Charger. He had abandoned Boudewyn and Lampe at the intersection of Highways 4 and 30. Kraft’s role is under investigation.
According to the JPD officer’s affidavit, Jefferson volunteer fireman Bret Cranston had picked up the pair along Highway 30. Boudewyn was shirtless in the sub-zero weather. They told Cranston they had been involved in an accident. Cranston took them to Sparky’s and called for an ambulance.
Inside the Jefferson Sparky’s, Boudewyn and Lampe were not cooperative with the officer, and in the officer’s presence, Boudewyn took Lampe to the ground and began to choke her. A fracas ensued. Boudewyn and Lampe both allegedly kicked and spit on the officer, and Boudewyn threatened the officer and his family. The officer struggled with Boudewyn and was able to handcuff him as Boudewyn tried to bite him.
Cranston restrained Lampe; she was handcuffed although still noncompliant with the officer’s directions. A second bystander stepped in to restrain Boudewyn as he continued to be violent.
Boudewyn and Lampe continued to resist officers as they were put into patrol vehicles and taken to the law enforcement center. At the LEC they were examined by medical personnel from Greene County EMS; they were determined not to need medical attention.
A deputy filed charges in connection with the Churdan incident. Boudewyn was charged with assault while participating in a felony (two counts), criminal mischief-second degree, operating without owner’s consent, and operating without a valid driver’s license. Lampe was charged with aiding and abetting, robbery-first degree and assault while participating in a felony.
The JPD officer charged Boudewyn with public intoxication-first offense, interference with official acts and disorderly conduct, all simple misdemeanors, and assault on persons in certain occupations, a serious misdemeanor. The officer charged Lampe with public intoxication-third offense, a serious misdemeanor, assault on persons in certain occupations (two counts) and disorderly conduct.
Haupert reported that his office was also notified that Boudewyn and Lampe will be charged in Calhoun County in connection with disorderly conduct at the Casey’s store in Lohrville.
Travis Venteicher’s 2000 Ford Taurus was estimated to be a total loss as a result of the damage during the Churdan incident.
